Today we learned about the Kinetic Theory of Matter which states the particles that make up matter are constantly moving. We also learned that temperature is the measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles in an object. So, to test this theory we put food coloring into a glass beaker with hot water and a glass beaker with cold water.
We determined that the food coloring that was in the warm water (red dye) diffused (spread out) easily and more quickly than the dye in the cold water (blue dye). This happened because the particles are moving quicker in the warm water than they are in the cold water which allowed the dye to move more freely and spread out! SCIENCE!
